ROGUE JAM - IGN, WTF, AND OTHER ACRONYMS

This week at Mutant, WTF?

Weekly Dev Update #72
Week of May 2nd, 2022

This week at Mutant, we’ve gone ROGUE (JAM)! We can finally talk about all it.

A while back, we submitted Kaiju Fishing for the Rogue Jam competition and we successfully made it to the final round of their “WTF” category. Judges included big names like beloved ex Nintendo of America President Reggie and we went up against some other awesome Indie games. The other finalists were all really cool, so we had fun going up against them and seeing what they have in store.

We can’t link directly to it here, but you can find it on the IGN Youtube page titled ‘WTF Games Compete for $100K Prize | Rogue Jam Ep. 3.’ It aired on Monday, so we hope you’ll give it a watch!

It was an honor to be a finalist in our group and to be featured in this show. Big thanks to IGN and Rogue for hosting! And if you stop by our Twitter or the Youtube videos, show some love to Zach for being our spokesperson. He represented us excellently so a big thanks to him for all of his effort.

I won’t spoil the result at the top here in case you want to watch the episode and be surprised, but I’ll talk about the result at the end of this post so watch the episode before you finish reading this update if you want to be spoiler-free! (It'll be right below the image in this so uh, you've been warned.)

BRR, AN ICY STORE PAGE UPDATE

In preparation for the episode, we wanted to spruce up our store page and do some “spring cleaning” in the process. We’ve updated the description to better fit our different features and story, and we’ve added some new screenshots highlighting the different environments that you’ll find in Kaiju Fishing.

This one in particular is shaping up to be a really cool

 environment. Heh.

These icy tundras will be home to our Seals, who you've likely seen before.

THE RESULTS ARE IN! (SPOILERS!)

I won't beat around the bush any more: we didn’t win.

The winning title, Zapling Bygone, looks like a lot of fun though so we are just excited for them. It’s a Metroidvania where you play as an alien hive-mind to defeat enemies and absorb their minds - and you get to wear their skulls? Sounds disturbing and amazing to us! Be sure to check out their steampage and wishlist it if it sounds cool to ya (I know I did!). Credit to 9FingerGames and best of luck to ya in the future. Can’t wait to see more!

Even though we didn’t win, we learned some valuable things about where we need to go from here, so we’re going to use this experience to propel us forward. Thanks to Rogue for the honest feedback and for the words of encouragement. We’ve got plenty to improve in our Demo and in our game and we are fully intent on nailing it - so keep your eyes on us!
