Back to Schools (of fish)

BACK TO SCHOOLS (OF FISH)
Our next steps this week involved creating schools of fish!

Weekly Dev Update #12
Week of May 18

This week was sort of a blur. All the days in quarantine sort of blend together. (Anyone else or is that just us?) We met at the start of this week to take a look at our Demo and talk about what comes next. We have plenty to do so we dove right in.

ALWAYS A BIGGER FISH
So I wanted to take this week to talk briefly about this line we’re trying to walk. Kaiju Fishing is a fantasy adventure game with fishing as a core mechanic. What this means is that we need a fun, engaging fishing experience that we can expand on as players progress but also one that doesn’t force an overly deep understanding of fishing as it would be in real life.

Our goal is to create a fishing game that escalates to the scale of epic monsters and still lands for players who want to enjoy just fishing in each zone. So this first demo is focused on the small fry, but it’s laying the groundwork for larger fish.

THE ECOSYSTEM... LIVES
One of the first things we want to establish is how you interact with the world and see it. We have a beautiful ocean system and going forward we’re looking for even more ways to take advantage of being able to see under the water.

So we’re going to be showing off our next key part of the fishing equation: schools of fish!

There’s plenty more to do with showing our environments and evolving the way the player can interact with them, but we think this is a cool start! There are more surprises to be found in these systems, but we’ve save those for later…
