Weekly Dev Update #46
Week of March 29, 2021

Maaaaaaaan, watching Godzilla and Kong duke it out this past week has me amped… I may have watched it twice already! We also re-watched the 1960s one to see if there were any fun little tie-ins in the new one and I was happy to spot a few.

Anyways! This week, let’s take a look behind-the-scenes at a very particular aspect of Kaiju Fishing: bosses. We had a good long meeting this week about how we’re going to tackle cinematics and boss fights going forward and it’s led to some sweet preliminary concept art!

RISE UP!

Kaiju Fishing will feature some massive creatures and fights so we’re pullin’ out all the stops to bring them to life. We’ve been hard at work to keep our scope in sight and build up our systems and mechanics to get to these massive moments.

The Kaiju fights are going to be a lot of fun to work on and our starting point (as always) is our elite artist Sarah. She’s the first to the board this week with a whole storyboard for boss intros and boss attacks… Here are just a few!



Part of making the bosses feel properly cinematic and epic is their attacks and how you fish for them. Here's a quick sketch of an attack that might be splashin' your way!


The different kaiju should all feel unique while building on the same core mechanics that our fishing will feature. The idea is “fishing for kaiju” so that is the primary goal. Hope you enjoyed this little tease and are as excited for the kaiju as we are!
